Havana

Peeling façades, boleros and a city that keeps itself whole.

Inside the city

What changes once you arrive.

Havana is like nowhere else. Light falls slantwise on aquamarine and salmon façades, a '55 Chevrolet rolls quietly down the Prado, a neighbour hangs laundry on a balcony that breathes history. Cuba has a tempo of its own, and Havana sets it.

We came to listen. Boleros at La Bodeguita, jazz at Fábrica de Arte, a young trio in a Vedado courtyard. We came to walk slowly through Old Havana, to read on the Malecón at sunset, to dine at a family paladar with vinyl playing. You leave different from how you arrived.

Moments

Three reasons to return.

The Malecón at sunset

Nº 01

The Malecón at sunset

Sit on the sea wall. A small rum, a salty breeze, someone playing trombone two metres away.

A paladar in Vedado

Nº 02

A paladar in Vedado

A private home, three tables, ropa vieja the way grandmother makes it, boleros in the background. Book the day before.

Fábrica de Arte Cubano

Nº 03

Fábrica de Arte Cubano

Gallery, cinema, terrace and DJ, all in one building. Go on a Friday. Leave at dawn.
